Ed Bruno is the Labor Party’s organizer for the New England region.

We basically got done everything we needed to do at the convention, and I think that came across. We laid out a coherent set of plans, even if we didn’t get to discuss them in detail.

I think people come out of this convention in a very serious frame of mind. Around here, people have been calling, trying to figure out how to apply stuff that the convention gave them. After the founding convention, they wanted to get together to debate things. Now it’s, "How will this work in Massachusetts?"

I think everybody’s pretty far away from electoral engagement at this point. I think the smart thing to do now would be for each location to begin to apply one or more of these issue campaigns, and to do it in an area where they hope to be electoral. That way, they can kill two birds with one stone.

In the meantime, we have an immediate objective of getting each member to organize one person. We want people to consider that to be an obligation of membership. At the convention, we also passed a structural change that requires chapters of under 250 people that want to stay chapters to submit an organizing plan immediately. [Otherwise, they revert to "organizing committees." See Resolution: Change the Party Structure.]

What we’re saying to people is, we all have to grapple with this — we’ve got to figure out a way to organize.
