In Pennsylvania —
Protesting
Welfare Cutoff

Rally sponsored by Kensington Welfare Rights Union

As of March 3, benefits were cut off for thousands of welfare recipients in Pennsylvania. Under the state’s 2-year-old welfare law, every welfare recipient must work at least 20 hours a week to receive benefits. But since there aren’t enough jobs for everyone, and since some welfare recipients are unable to work, many will now go without benefits. The Kensington Welfare Rights Union, a Labor Party affiliate, led a demonstration of some 500 people in Philadelphia March 3 to protest the policy.
