Just
Healthcare Campaign
Just Healthcare
Radio a Hit!The Labor Partys
Just Healthcare radio program hit the airwaves with a splash on Sunday, June 6. Thanks to
the organizing efforts of Labor Party members around the country, some two dozen radio
stations in 17 states aired the program, including both Pacifica and National Public Radio
stations.
The program featured a panel of healthcare experts and Labor Party leaders in a
one-hour roundtable discussion followed by an hour-long call-in segment. It was hosted by
Amy Goodman of New York City-based Pacifica station WBAI.
Response to the program was overwhelming. During the call-in segment of the show, lines
were jammed. The Labor Partys toll-free phone line was also flooded with calls. And
in the days following the program, the Labor Party got a series of requests to talk more
about our healthcare campaign. On June 9, LP co-chair Kit Costello and LP organizer Tony
Mazzocchi spent an hour talking about the need for Just Healthcare on Jim Hightowers
radio program and a half hour as guests on San Franciscos KPFA.
The Just Healthcare radio program, which was broadcast via NPRs satellite, is
available to Pacifica and NPR stations for rebroadcast. A number of radio stations plan to
run the show in the weeks to come. Labor Party members are encouraged to lobby their local
radio stations to air the program.
The next issue of the Labor Party Press will include a full report on the show
and on next steps for the Labor Partys Just Healthcare campaign. |
